On 17th December 2019, the EPPA Team representatives took part in the roundtable on the “Development of joint management plans for cross-border habitats and ecosystems with particular reference to large carnivores“.

Event was organized by the Ministry of Environmental Protection with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, the AII Permanent Secretariat in Ancona and EUSAIR Thematic Steering Group 3.

The subjects discussed during the meeting included the protection and preservation of terrestrial habitats and ecosystems by development of joint management plans (in particular transnational habitats and landscape elements of central importance for large carnivores). The EPPA Team leader, Mihail Dimovski presented the project and its relevance to the objectives of EUSAIR, particularly in the area ob biodiversity and nature protection. Ventzislav Vassilev, EPPA Senior expert, presented the progress of the implementation of the Study on green infrastructure deployment and ecological connectivity status in the EPPA countries, including the methodology of the ongoing spatial analysis targeting on the large carnivores as umbrella species. The discussion put a focus on participating countries commitments and obligations under national legislation, the EU nature protection acquis and the corresponding multilateral environmental agreements. Projects and initiatives with similar scope and objectives have been identified in order to improve the cooperation and build synergies.
