The workshop was attended by experts from relevant Bosnian institutions (namely Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Republika Srpska, Public Insitution ‘Vode Srpske’, Agency for Watershed of the Adriatic Sea Mostar, The Republic Institute for Protection of Cultural, Historical and Natural Heritage, HEIS- Hydro Engineering Insitute Sarajevo etc.) and included speakers sharing experience from Greece, Romania and Slovenia as well as representatives from the European Commission. Special focus was given to the following topics:
- Strengthening Bosnian capacity for effective addressing implementation challenges of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD),
- Providing guidance on the designation of new Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas (MPAs),
- trans-boundary management of the Adriatic Sea,
- European Green Deal,
- EU actions against marine litter and for marine environment protection in the Adriatic and the Mediterranean.
Important discussions concerned effective management and potential threats for existing MPAs as well as needs for further trainings and capacity building in the subject.
