The online workshop on implementation of the Barcelona Convention was held on February 16th – 17th, 2021.

TAIEX EPPA Sub-Regional Workshop on Implementation of the Barcelona Convention

The workshop was attended by participants of four EPPA Beneficiaries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Turkey who had lively discussions with the EU Member States experts from Slovenia and Romania as well as with representatives of the European Commission DG Environment and the United Nations Environment Program/ MAP (Mediterranean Action Plan) and Specially Protected Areas Regional Activity Center (SPA/RAC).

All participants exchanged experience and good practices for implementation of Barcelona Convention as well as planned efforts and regional cooperation initiatives. Among discussed topics there were three out of seven Convention’s Protocols (Land Based Protocol, Specially Protected Areas and Biological Diversity, Integrated Coastal Zone Management Protocol in the context of flood prone areas) along with enhancing synergies between the Convention and other regional conventions and initiatives. The workshop focused also on implementation of ecosystem approach in the Mediterranean and the state of implementation of the Barcelona Convention in the EPPA Beneficiaries.
