The workshop will focus on the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment and the Coastal Region of the Mediterranean (Barcelona Convention) and its three protocols: (1) the Protocol for the Prevention and Elimination of Pollution of the Mediterranean Sea by Dumping from Ships and Aircraft or Incineration at Sea (Dumping Protocol); (2) the Protocol concerning Cooperation in Preventing Pollution from Ships and, in Cases of Emergency, Combating Pollution of the Mediterranean Sea (Prevention and Emergency Protocol), and (3) the Protocol on the Prevention of Pollution of the Mediterranean Sea by Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal (Hazardous Wastes Protocol). The workshop will assist EPPA Beneficiaries that are Parties to the Convention, i.e. Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Turkey.
With the aim to facilitate regional cooperation and exchange of best practices within transboundary water management, the workshop will host discussions between EPPA Beneficiaries and experts of the EU Member States (Romania and Slovenia). The focus of the event will be put, among others, on achieving/ maintaining good ecological status of marine waters and preserving biodiversity according to the EU environmental acquis (MSFD, WFD, UWWTD).
Beneficiaries will also discuss with the representatives with the UNEP/ MAP, REMPEC, MED POL the country’s efforts in implementation of the Convention as well as will be updated by the European Commission on the current developments.
