TAIEX EPPA Sub- Regional Workshop on implementation of the Barcelona Convention

The workshop will focus on the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment and the Coastal Region of the Mediterranean (Barcelona Convention) and three of its seven protocols (Land-Based Sources Protocol, Specially Protected Areas and Biological Diversity Protocol, and Integrated Coastal Zone Management Protocol) and will assist those EPPA Beneficiaries that are Parties to the Convention, i.e. Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Turkey.

In order to facilitate regional cooperation in transboundary water management and protection of the marine and coastal environment, the workshop will provide opportunities for views exchange between EPPA Beneficiaries and experts of the EU Member States. Discussion will be around, among others, the national strategic documents necessary for implementing Barcelona Convention as well as the new policy instruments and action plans required for implementing the protocols.

Beneficiaries will also discuss with the UNEP/ MAP Focal Points the country’s efforts in implementation the Convention as well as will be updated by the European Commission on the implementation of the Ecosystem Approach in the Mediterranean.
