The Regional Working Group (RWG), composed of Nature Working Group Coordinators of all EPPA Beneficiaries, aims to strengthen the regional cooperation for joint actions in order to develop GI and ecosystem connectivity. The Study on Green Infrastructure Deployment and Ecological Connectivity Status in Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia and North Macedonia, developed in 2020, recommends the Western Balkan countries to establish a mechanism for coordination of joint actions. The findings and recommendations of this study were confirmed by the beneficiaries during the regional workshop, held on June 24-25th, 2020, as well as during the 2nd Steering Committee Meeting, held on September 15th, 2020.
The Participants of the meeting have reviewed and approved the work program, proposed by the EPPA Project Team as well as discussed and accepted the proposed outline of the Regional Action Plan for GI. Members of the Group have also discussed proposals for the organization and governance of regional cooperation in relation the GI and ecological connectivity, as part of the proposed action plan.
The EPPA Study on green infrastructure has made detailed proposals, on the basis of a sound scientific analysis, for biodiversity corridors across the region. These proposals include existing protected areas as well as buffer and connecting areas critical for achieving connectivity across the region and with adjoining countries. The planned 3 meetings of this group give a great opportunity to review and revise these proposals which will help to prepare a joint proposal for a Regional Action Plan for Green Infrastructure.
